Welcome to all Supporters of Pirate Softball
NEWSLETTER 14, December 14, 2009
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MY
FAMILY TO YOURS. BE SAFE IN ALL OF YOUR TRAVELS.
Latest News:
Thanks to
everyone for finding the time to check in on ECU softball. 2010 looks to be a season like no other especially
with the new complex.
Sorry
that we were not able to order merchandise in time for Christmas. Last year we raised around $900 to help the
softball program through the sale of Blackbeard’s Ballers’ shirts, hats and
sweatshirts. So if you want to continue
with this support, please place your orders in time for the 2010 home season to
begin. http://www.blackbeardsballers.com/Whatsonsale.htm
Softball
ended fall conditioning with the annual Pirate Clash, a team competition
between the Skulls and the Sabers. This year the golden bat went to the Skulls.

Members
of the softball team once again found time to volunteer for The Reindeer Dash
for Cash. This effort in the community came after a very successful food
drive for the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina.
Student
athletes are spending this week finishing up exams before the holiday
break. ECU will begin the next semester
January 8.
Congratulations
to all of the softball players and the rest of the student athletes who will be
graduating this weekend. Remember, once
a Pirate, always a Pirate.
Congratulations
to Sharon Baldwin-Tener for becoming the winningest coach in ECU women’s
basketball.
Congratulations
to the Pirate football team for winning back to back CUSA championships.
WELCOME TO THE NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE
PIRATE NATION, THE SOFTBALL CLASS OF 2014:
BLOGGER UPDATE:
Thanks to Nicole Jordan and Kai Clark for doing the “Blogging”
for the last few weeks. What a great way
to learn about the life of a student athlete.
Sometimes as fans, we forget that these young women are students first.

Stadium Update: Yes,
the NEW SOFTBALL STADIUM is on its way! AARRGGHH!!
Construction began October 19, 2009.
Progress has been slow, but there has been progress. All the rain has “dampened” the moving of all
of the dirt that is necessary before the actual steel is laid. I have been told they are still
grading the south end. The drainage
system is about 40% complete. Hopefully
by the first week in January, you will see some steel going up.

Finally,
congratulations once again to all of the 2009 Award Winners.

more information. With all of the
progress being made, it is important for ECU athletics to continue in the right
direction. We DO NOT want our progress to end with just the stadium.
