SOFTBALL BLOGS FOR 2011-12 SEASON:
SOFTBALL BLOG with Suzanne Riggs
Hey everyone!
So exams are officially over! This past week I experienced the emotional part of college, graduating and roommates moving out to start their "life after college." But I am officially an alumni of ECU, so weird.
As for the rest of the team and myself, everyone has flown or driven back home to spend the holidays with their families and friends. With the season opener starting in less than two months, us players and fans are getting more excited and looking forward to the upcoming months.
So be sure to come out and support your lady Pirate Softball for the season opener February 10 in Greenville for the Pirate Classic! Hope everyone has a happy and safe Christmas and New Years! GO PIRATES!
Hello bloggers!
Sorry it's been a while since my last post...I've been spending all of my time at the library trying to get finished up with the bazillion last minute papers, assignments and tests professors love to give. Happy to say, I don't have my next exam until next week!
If you hadn't heard about this years Pirate Clash...SABERS (Kai, Jordan, Abby, Kristi, Alex, Sara P, Sarah C and myself) brought home the victory and the "golden bat!" Coach Koz continued to surprise us with new and exciting events of competition but the Sabers strength, intelligence, speed and strategic pranking abilities were just enough to knock off the Skulls eating contest abilities.
This upcoming week is going to be a exciting one for me...graduating from undergrad and old lady alumni Erin St Ledger is coming to visit! One of the greatest things about ECU softball are the friendships that come out of it all. But now with all of the fall sports ending its getting that time of the year to get excited about some college basketball and the beginning of softball/baseball season coming up...GO PIRATES
Hey everyone!
So I’m just getting back from Thanksgiving break and it was a week much needed! Although for the first time in 22 years, I didn’t spend my usual Thanksgiving lunch/dinner/late night snack with my family. Instead I ended up going to Florida with a group of friends and was able to experience my first Disney World trip! Thankfully, my family let this happen and seemed (or pretended) not to mind too much. Love you mom and dad! J
Most of the girls on the team ended up staying in town and having a Thanksgiving meal with Coach Kee and Coach Koz and some were able to get out of town and either go home or do something exciting for a few days. (Becca getting to go to Vegas-jealous!) Now we are back on the last stretch of our semester…which means my location will be at the library for weeks to come.
For our last conditioning before break we had the infamous surprise kickball game for conditioning. Splitting up into Sabers v Skulls made for an exciting preview of how this Wednesday’s Pirate Clash will go. Although for the first time in my five years. yes five, we had to end the game in a tie. (mainly because of Percy’s in your face kicking skills and Sarah Christian’s cut throat outfield play) But that will not be the case midweek- GO SABERS!
Hey everyone!
I'm Suzanne Riggs but aside from the many nicknames I've received, you'll mainly hear me called Riggs. I am a 5th year senior or super senior as we call it, from Greenville, NC. I play outfield, mainly left, but if you've been following our program for a while you may have seen me in a few different areas of the field. Because of a season ending injury my sophomore year, I am getting the privilege of having one more chance to play the sport I love while everyone I've grown with in this program has gone on to the "real world", leaving me to be the "mama" of the team. A nickname i thought I'd NEVER receive. Ill be graduating with a degree in Hospitality Management this upcoming December (yay!) and have applied for graduate school for the spring semester. Being a Greenville native, I have been able to stay close to my family and they have been able to attend almost all of my games which has made for an amazing support system over the years (and a lot of awesome meals :) )
This week at ECU has made for a interesting one. For those of you who didn't hear, there was a lockdown for around 3-4 hours that made national news, thankfully nothing serious came out of the incident. As the semester is winding down for everyone, the stress of grades and excitement of break are taking most of our focus as the dates come near. This week I've written a 15 page paper, completed 2 discussion boards, 2 assignments and taken a 40 question "quiz". Needless to say I'm glad to say I have Fridays off! Also a shout out to Alexa, one of our freshmen had a birthday this week so Happy Birthday to her!
This week we also met as a team discussing our goals for this upcoming year. With the tough schedule ahead of us we know we have our work cut out for us. For our conditioning this week, we have to run 156 laps around the track total as a team for our annual "marathon" run. So far our numbers are looking to be on track for our goal! (nice pun right? Ha) Along with doing max outs in the weight room with "Terrific Tate" the legs are feeling a little less than awesome. Speaking of, we have those glorious 630am weights tomorrow so bedtime for me! GO PIRATES!

Hello everyone!
I apologize for taking so long to write this blog. We are still in skills, weights and conditioning. There is not a lot to talk about since not much has changed from the last time I blogged. This Friday we had dinner at Wynne’s house. The Fieldhouses’ came (Alex’s parents) to town and they cooked for us at the Wynne’s house (Abby’s parents’ house). Cicely’s mom was also her this weekend. We had this weekend completely off from softball but the next two weekends we will be having camps! Next Saturday we have a camp and the following Sunday we have a camp at ECU. I would also like to say congratulations to our women’s soccer team on their season. For you soccer fans that also follow ECU softball don’t be surprised to see senior Kimmy Cummings in an ECU softball uniform come spring! There is a possibility that Kimmy will be a part of our team to run the bases.
Until next time,
Percy

Hello everyone!
So there really is not a whole lot to tell about ECU softball at the moment since fall games just ended and we start skills again this coming week until December. We still have weights three times a week. I am not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but we have a new weight coach. His name is Coach Tate. He is really nice and his workouts are hard but he is just trying to make us better. We played our last fall game against PCC. We played at home and we won 4-2 in eight and a half innings.
Right now we are all focusing on our school work since we are coming up on md-terms and finals are just around the corner. I almost forgot to tell you that our schedule is now on-line! We have 24 home games this year! It would be great if you all could come out and support us at all of our home games. Our season opener is at home on February 10th at 2:00pm. We have a very tough schedule this year but if we work on what we need to work on and keep working hard then we should be alright. Well that’s all I have for now.
Until next time,
Percy

Hello all!
So we just had fall break here at ECU and it was a much needed break. Here is a little bit of what the softball team did over fall break. On Friday we went and volunteered at the Boys and Girls club for a few hours. It was a lot of fun and very interesting. Kids say the funniest things. A few of the girls went home to visit their families. Kristi and Chiddy went with Jazz and spent the weekend with her and her family. On Sunday Kristi and Chiddy went to a Panthers game. Jordan, Alex and I carved some pumpkins. That was pretty fun. The rest of us that stayed in Greenville during the break fell in love with the game “catch phrase”. I don’t know if you have ever heard of it but it is very fun to play with a big group of people. We played it consecutive nights in a row!
Well this week we are back to skills, weights and conditioning. We have team practice on Friday and team practice all next week so that we can get ready for the upcoming game against Pitt and our purple/gold scrimmage. We also have two clinics this weekend. One on Saturday and one on Sunday, should be a lot of fun and very exciting! Well that is all for now.
Enjoy the rest of the week,
Percy

Hello everyone!
Sorry I have not written in a few days but it’s been a couple of busy days
for the softball team.
This weekend we played 5
games. On Saturday we had three and Sunday we had two.
We lost our first game on Saturday but then went on to
win the following two. Sunday we played NC State and
UNC-Chapel Hill. We tied the first game against State
3-3 in 6 innings. (We were on a time limit.) We tied UNC
1-1. We had a runner on first and two outs when the time
ran out so we could not finish the bottom of the seventh
inning and had to finish in a tie. There were a lot of
positives that we took away from this weekend. We also
have a lot to work on before season starts. Our pitchers
did a great job this weekend! I was very proud of all
three of them. They have shown some significant progress
and I know they’ll do a great job this season as well.
This week we are back in skills. (Skills are a group of
4-5 girls that work with coaches for 45min.) This coming
week is fall break for us so we do not have softball but
after that we are back at it as we try and get ready for
our game against Pitt CC on Friday October 21st and our
purple v. gold scrimmage which is on Saturday October
22nd. I hope you all have a wonderful week. Until next
time!

Hello everyone!
So I am the first blogger this year. Let me start off by letting you know a little bit about me. My name is Priscilla Velasquez. Most people call me Percy, I don’t mind either one. I am from La Quinta, California. I am a senior this year at ECU majoring in social work. I have one sibling, a younger sister named Luisa. She is 10 years old and has just started travel ball this year.
Now that you know a little bit about me, allow me to tell you a little bit about the new faces on the ECU softball team. We have 5 freshman this year, all of which are excellent softball players and are working hard so far this fall.
Wearing number 20 this year is Alexa Cannon. She is from Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and plays on the infield. Next is number 8 Sara Pacioni. Sara is from Danville, CA and is a catcher/corner. Number 2 is Sarah Christian, a pitcher from Greenville, N.C. Number 9 is Emma Mendoker who is a pitcher from Amherst, M.A. Last but certainly not least is number 13 Courtney Smith who is also a pitcher from Yorba City, C.A.
Well that will be all for this blog. My next blog will be in a few days and I will update everyone on the team and how fall workouts and practices are going.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
