BLOGGERS UPDATE:
Thanks
to senior, Paige Baggett, who just finished her “blogging” duties giving us
another senior’s view. Charina Sumner is the newest blogger.
If you are skipping the blogs by these girls, then you are
missing out. All of them are worth
reading. My sincere thanks goes out to
all of them for taking the time to share with us.

East Carolina
University celebrated the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes at
the Fifth Annual Academic Excellence Awards banquet, held inside the City Hotel
and Bistro Monday evening.
Four members of the
softball team continue to make us proud by being invited to the Academic Excellence Banquet to receive their award
for earning a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average. Charina Sumner and
Christen Aona attended with their guests, "faculty members who they deemed
influential in their academic endeavors". Jessica Johnson and Kaui
Tom were also rewarded for their Academic Excellence.

The Pirates found out why nationally ranked Houston's Angel Shamblin is
one of the top pitchers in the country. After shutting down the Pirates
in game one, she came in for relief in the second game to stop a threat by
ECU. Pirates lose game two 6-2.
The Pirates were not able to get the bats going Sunday either, losing
7-0 and only able to get 2 hits against Shamblin and Lott.
ECU is now 27-21 on the season and 5-9 in C-USA.
On a positive note: ECU Pirates are ranked #3 in the nation in fielding
percentage.
April 9, 2008
Pirates continue to dominate UNCW winning both games of the DH.
Stacey Andrews went 5 for 6 including 2 doubles and a home run.
April 2, 2008
Pirates finally get their first win against a ranked team, and it just
happened to be #16 UNC which makes
it that much sweeter. Two pitchers from Pitt County went head to head for
a couple of innings, but Suzanne Riggs got the win, 3-2.
March 22, 2008
The ECU Pirates travelled to Stanford, California for the Stanford
Invitational II. Though ECU was only
able to win 2 games, there was a bright spot of the weekend with the tailgate
party hosted by Jamie Jimenez and his family. All the families of the
west coast players were there and able to enjoy the fellowship with over 100 tailgaters
after watching the Pirates play a couple of games. I bet that ECU had
more fans than anyone else as usual!! Thanks to Jamie for getting
this event going. Check out pictures and slideshows on the website.
March 15, 2008
Coach Tracey Kee was presented with an engraved bat from East Carolina to
commemorate her 500 wins.

It takes money to run the Pirate
ship. There are ways to give back to East Carolina University. One way
that will make sure your donation goes directly to ECU softball is through an
endowment. "Creating a Legacy Today for the Champions of
Tomorrow." We are in the process of creating an endowment of
$30,000+ for ECU Softball. The donations from as many donors as necessary
may be spread out over a 5 year span. If you want more information about
endowments, please email ecusoftballfan@yahoo.com
or contact East Carolina University Educational Foundation directly at youngd@ecu.edu.
The other way is to join the Pirate Club to show support for
women’s athletics at ECU. If you need more information, email ecusoftballfan@yahoo.com or go
online to www.ecupirateclub.com to
donate, and please write 16393 in
the comment space. That will let ECU know where your heart is and give me
some credit. THANK YOU.
