*The Pirates (38-13, 19-5 C-USA) closed out their CUSA season at Marshall.  They are in first place in CUSA awaiting the results of the Tulsa - S. Miss series over the weekend. A few percentage points away, Tulsa must lose at least once for them to remain in 2nd place and for the Pirates to take their first CUSA regular season title.

*Winning today over Marshall allowed the Pirates to win the series. ECU dropped only one conference series this season, its fewest since joining the league in 2002.

BLOGGER UPDATE:

Thanks to Angel Barrella and Tiffany Shaw for doing the “Blogging” for the last few weeks.  What a great way to learn about the life of a student athlete.  Sometimes as fans, we forget that these young women are students first. Click on the blog on the front page to get caught up.

Photo Gallery is weak though it has been updated recently thanks to many of you.  Click the following link for the latest pictures:

You can also go to the ECU photo gallery listed under multimedia for pictures from earlier in the season: http://ecupirates.cstv.com/photogallery/gallery_index.html?school=ecu&sport=&

I would love to have some more pictures.  If you have taken any, please contact me so that we can find a way to share with family and friends.

Finally, congratulations to our 4 SENIORS, Angel, Sarah, Jessica, and Brooke.  This weekend will be their SENIOR DAY as we say good bye to a group that has made everyone proud. Be sure to come by to honor them before the game.

We DO NOT want our progress to end with just the stadium.

Stadium Update:  Yes, the NEW SOFTBALL STADIUM is on its way!  AARRGGHH!!

Here is another update.

From the March 27, 2009 Goldsboro News Argus by Rudy Coggins:

“ECU athletic facilities will undergo facelifts

Passers-by won't recognize the corner of Charles Boulevard in Greenville by 2012.

Athletics officials from East Carolina unveiled a schematic plan that will drastically change the tree-filled area, which is the current golf-disc field.

A three-phase project is scheduled to begin in June and conclude in 2012 with the construction of an office building for Olympic sports behind Clark-LeClair Stadium on the ECU campus. The first phase includes a new softball facility that should be ready by February 2010. The second phase is a track complex, women's soccer field and nine tennis courts. The third phase is the Olympic sports building that will house coaches and feature other amenities.

All three phases should cost about $20 million and no private funding is planned. ECU officials said at Thursday's annual meeting of the Wayne County Pirate Club that the expense is being handled through student fees, which will steadily increase to help pay off the debt.”
